Wait... I can't pick who I want to live with?? Not in Michigan!

According to this Fox News article, if you are advertising for a roommate in Michigan, it is illegal to request that the roommate be a certain religion, sexual orientation, etc. The only request you can "legally" make is gender!
The woman in this article simply put up a private announcement on the Church bulletin, asking for a "Christian roommate." Now, fair housing officials have said that in addition to hundreds of dollars of fees, they would like to require the woman to go through "fair housing training." Basically, they want to indoctrinate her against her religious beliefs so she won't ever consider making such a terrible blunder again as asking to live with someone who shares her values. I mean, what a ridiculous idea.
So, does this mean I couldn't ask for a roommate who does their own dishes? Is this now considered a hate crime? I am really appalled at this intrusion of government into citizens' private lives. This legislation is unconstitutional and certainly infringes on freedom of religion. I hope and pray that this woman will find a Christian roommate and get out of this lawsuit with her faith intact!

NOW State Affiliate slurs Meg Whitman

Following is an article reporting that the California state affiliate president of NOW (National Organization for Women) agreed that Meg Whitman, candidate for California Governor, could be called a "political whore."

I would hope that a supposed representative of women would have enough respect for womanhood to have the good sense to refrain from using such an ugly slur towards any woman.

All women deserve respect, Ms. Bellasalma, not just those who support your feminist and liberal agenda. Women can be independent thinkers. We can have our own, separate, intelligent views. And we can disagree respectfully and move on to work for the good of ALL women.

Leadership Institute Experience

Time to start blogging again!

I just got home from an intense two-day Youth Leadership School put on by the Leadership Institute in Orem. The Leadership Institute is an awesome non-profit organization which trains young conservative political leaders. Since LI was founded by the conservative legend Morton Blackwell in 1979, they have turned out conservative political leaders left and right. If you’re conservative and at all interested in a political career you NEED to check it out. I gained more practical knowledge about political activism in 2 days of LI than I have in 3 semesters as a political science student. I feel empowered and ready to go! Anybody need a campaign manager?!? Just kidding.

Though not a political campaign, I’m hoping to apply the principles I’ve learned to a local advocacy group I’m trying to start here in Provo. I would like to start a chapter of The Girl Effect. Pretty much the only problem holding me back right now is thinking of a good name for the group with one of my friends. Don’t worry, I will keep you posted and I’ll be a much better blogger from now on. Well, maybe.

One more announcement: I’m going to London! I’ve been accepted to the BYU Study Abroad at the BYU London Centre for next semester and I will definitely update my blog then for friends who want to hear about London. I’m hoping I get to go see parliament…

In summary:
The Leadership Institute is awesome,
Check out GirlEffect.org, and
Be excited for London!!!

Have a beautifully political day :)

Dean Hubbard video

Call me a nerd, but this video makes me laugh so hard. I wish I had seen it when it came out... This is Dr. Glenn Hubbard, who was on the short list to be chairman of the federal reserve when Alan Greenspan retired. Pres. Bush picked Ben Bernanke instead.
